Gearing up for the 2011 People's Joy Parade: videos and pix!

on Wed, 04/27/2011 - 2:16am

Hello Internetters! Check out our latest goings-on for the upcoming People's Joy Parade on Saturday May 7th.

Parade Workshops

We're busy busy here at CAMP setting up for this year's People's Joy Parade during Cherokee Siete de Mayo (née Cinco de Mayo).  Costume Workshops, footbeat signing rehearsal, dragon and pirate ship construction, and more.  It's not too late to come yourself to our Saturday costume workshop 2pm - 4pm, or our Footbeat choir rehearsal Sunday 1pm - 3pm, happing at CAMP, 3026 Cherokee St.

You can see some pictures (more very soon!) of our workshops here:

Parade Movie and Kickstarter >>> You Can Still Pledge up until 5/4!

Our Kickstarter campaign for the People's Joy Parade is doing great!  We've raised nearly 50% of our goal of $2500 in parade funds, and we have over a week to go!  Plus, Sarah Paulsen compiled an excellent 18min movie of the happenings from last year's parade.  Do please take a minute to watch our neighborhood stroll proudly by.  I marched in the parade myself last year, and still I was struck watching this wonderful film!  You can pledge as little as $1 to our Kickstarter, with a $5 pledge earning you a cute little button!

Parade Wax-A-Thon Thursday 4/28 @ El Leñador 10pm - 1am

Ben West is pulling out the Soul, the Jazz, Hip-Hop, Blip-Hop, Glitch-Hop, and children's programming soundtrack vinyl for a Wax-A-Thon fundraiser for People's Joy Parade!  While the People's Joy Parade has always had the on-site mobile, hand-crank turntable to satisfy your urges, it's often been too loud to actually hear what record was actually playing. We're fixing that this year!

Come to El Lenador, 3126 Cherokee St, on the night of Thursday 4/18! There will be Soul, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Blip-Hop, Glitch-Hop, and children's programming soundtracks.  More details soon.

Donations are gladly encouraged, and proceeds will go to our People's Joy Parade Kickstarter campaign to compensate artists, parade organizers, performers, and starving municipal parade permit giver-outers!
